Make more from waste with our insect farm
Our complete insect farm turns food waste and byproducts into valuable low-carbon resources for your business.
Complete insect farm
We plan, design and build modular insect farms anywhere in the world and our end-to-end service supports your business at each step of the journey, from concept and basic engineering through to completion, as well as ongoing maintenance and support.
Insects rapidly convert food waste into low-carbon, high-value products.
Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) are incredibly efficient at converting organic waste including food waste and agricultural byproducts into high-quality protein. They are voracious eaters and reach their full size within 10-14 days, allowing farm operators to obtain substantial amounts of protein in a relatively short time frame.
Produce high-value, low-carbon products
-
Whole insects
Larvae can be used whole in pet food or processed into valuable, low-carbon ingredients for use in aquafeed, pet food and poultry feed.
-
Organic fertiliser
The fertiliser can be applied as a soil amendment to stimulate plant growth.
The benefits of an Entocycle insect farm
-
Turn waste into resource
Our insect farm allows for on-site or localised food waste valorisation, significantly reducing the volume of waste and associated disposal costs.
-
Satisfy growing demand
Meet growing demand for low-carbon alternative protein sources with the insect protein industry expected to reach $10bn by 2030.
-
Reduce CO2 emissions
BSF farming has a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional feed production methods and can help your business reduce CO2 and reach net zero goals.
Case Study
University of Leeds
Entocycle designed, developed and installed a state-of-the-art insect rearing demonstrator facility for The University of Leeds at its research farm in Yorkshire. The lab-scale unit will facilitate vital research to develop the protocols and codes of practice to unlock the growth of the UK insect farming industry and its potential to decarbonise livestock production.
“A big thank you to the entire team for delivering such an amazing piece of kit. The flexibility of systems and adjustability of various aspects are just brilliant and the unit has a super-easy user interface. Pure genius!”
– Dr Gesa Reiss, SMART Agri-Systems Senior Innovation Fellow, University of Leeds
Our proprietary technology enables the control, monitoring and production of insects at an industrial scale.
-
Climate control
HVAC systems play a pivotal role in regulating temperature, humidity, and airflow within black soldier fly facilities, thereby optimising productivity and efficiency.
-
Machine vision
Machine vision systems monitor insect populations in real-time with cameras and image processing algorithms deployed to count and track insects over their lifecycle.
-
Automation
Automation offers numerous benefits including increased production efficiency, labour savings, consistent quality control, data-driven decision making, and scalability.
Our partnership with Bühler, one of the world’s leading processing technology groups.
We’ve partnered with Bühler, one of the world’s leading processing technology groups, to drive the adoption of large-scale black soldier fly (BSF) farms. Together, we’ll provide solutions and expertise to serve customers in or entering the insect industry, covering the multiple steps of the journey, from concept and basic engineering to execution of BSF facilities worldwide.
Building an insect farm: step-by-step
-
1. Feasibility Study
Our feasibility study includes a framing workshop, feedstock selection, concept engineering and business case.
-
2. Basic Engineering
Basic engineering develops a site-specific plan, technical specifications of process equipment and systems such that they can be tendered to suppliers.
-
3. Execution
Detailed construction-level designs with fully specified CAD models allow for procurement of equipment for the facility and installation of the complete farm.
-
4. Operation
Commissioning and ramp up of complete farm with rigorous testing and optimisation of processes before the transfer of farm operations to the customer.
